The Corps further found that the “Mud Cat’s patented retractable mud shield, which surrounds the cutterhead, entraps suspended material increasing suction efficiency and minimizing turbidity.” These comments are from a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ report entitled “Control and Containment Technologies”, which means, in layman’s terms, “remediation methods for removing contaminated sediments including by dredging.”
This report offers an objective comparison of various dredging technologies, advantages and disadvantages of each, such as hydraulic dredging. The report focuses on turbidity issues, efficiency, recovery, etc.
